A New Season

Dear Life Church Family,

I hope and pray that you had a wonderful summer full of fun and laughter. After a great month of sabbath, I am thrilled to be back together with our church family at Soundhouse THIS SUNDAY (September 1). We will gather together for a time of worship, prayer, teaching, and fellowship. We will have special pastry treats to share as we catch up with each other. And then NEXT SUNDAY (September 8), you are invited to come to our home after service for a special Welcome Back lunch and share a meal around our big table. And afterwards, for those who are interested, we will hang out at Concord Park for some games (weather permitting). Our address is 95 E. 1st Avenue, Unit 906 (Buzzer #9609).

Let me take this opportunity to share a few words about some things that have been on my heart for our church family.

Hungry for More of God

This September begins a brand new season for our young church plant. Our church family has walked through a lot this last year. There was a lot of laughter. And there were a lot of tears. Through it all, I am sensing this wonderful invitation from God to ask for more of him - more of his love, more of his power, more of his presence, for us as individuals, as a church family, and also for Vancouver. I am not sure exactly what all this means yet, but I am eager to respond to this warm invitation together as a church family. Over the next month, we will be talking specifically about some of the ways that we want to respond.

Special Guest Teachers - Rose and Rich Swetman

On Sunday, September 8, we will have special guest teachers come and speak at Life Church. Rose Swetman is the Regional Leader for the Northwest Region of Vineyard USA and provides oversight and encouragement for Vineyard churches throughout Washington, Oregon, and Northern California. Rose teaches Leadership as an adjunct professor at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. She is married to Rich and they have a blended family of eight children, their spouses and at this count, twenty-two grandchildren! I am excited to have them come and speak into our church plant.

Vision Day and a New Leadership Team

Sunday, September 15, will be our Vision Sunday. This will be the day that we are setting aside to talk about where we believe God is leading us as a church family this year. This will also be a special Sunday when we will be introducing our new leadership team who will be serving and leading for this next year. I am so grateful to see the amazing people that God has brought to our church family. I am really looking forward to working alongside this great team. I can’t wait to introduce them to you on September 15.

As we prepare for a new year of ministry ahead of us, my heart is full of excitement, faith, and a little bit of fear and trembling. I feel this deep sense of Jesus inviting us deeper into his presence, his love, and his power. I sense Jesus inviting us to ask him for more of his Kingdom. I sense Jesus inviting us to pray that our eyes would be open to see what the Father is doing in us, in our church, and in our city. I sense Jesus inviting us to ask for courage so that we can keep saying yes to him.

There was a new song that I learned at the Vineyard conference in Denver. It’s called “God of our Mothers and Fathers.” The lyrics give voice to the prayer that has been echoing in my heart. I have been singing this song and praying these words for our church and our city for this new season.

God of our mothers and fathers
Come now and move among us
What You did before
Come and do once more
We want to be a part of Your story

God of our mothers and fathers
Show Your glory to our sons and daughters
What You were back then
Come and be again
We want to see Your power in our presence!

Chorus:
In our time, in our day
Come and move in this place
Come and move God, move God, move God
In this place

God of our mothers and fathers
Send your Spirit just like you promised
You can have Your way
Visit us today
We want to see Your power in our presence!

Bridge:
God of our mothers and fathers
Come be our God
God of our mothers and fathers
Come be our God
Come take the vineyard You planted
And make us new wine

I am grateful to be on this journey with you!
