ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN CHURCH?

More than identifying with any religion or philosophy, we align ourselves with a person - Jesus. We try to follow Jesus in all that we are and all that we do. We believe that he is the most clear picture of God we've seen in this life.

We seek not only to follow his teachings, as communicated through the stories in the Bible, but to live in connection with him. We try to cultivate interactive relationships with Jesus so that we may be continually transformed by him and made to be more like him.

Our hope in this is that, we, like he, can bring fullness of life to the world we inhabit. By our best read, his whole life and teaching seemed to ask: what if connecting with God led you into a deeper experience of life and made you a more bridge-building person? To us, that sounds like the best possible way to go about life, especially in a context like multicultural and pluralistic Vancouver. We welcome the religious, the non-religious, the agnostic, and the skeptical-but-curious to come along for the ride and be a part of this search for meaning that we find Jesus so helpful for.

SO YOU’RE A CHURCH “START-UP”? WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT?

It's really not that different from a tech start-up, but in this case we're channeling our entrepreneurial energies toward furthering a spiritual revolution, rather than a digital one. Right now we're in the early phases of community life, and are looking for folks to partner with who find the idea of building something new as important and exciting as we do. Since we are still in the early stages of our community formation, we do not yet have a regular church service on Sunday mornings. Instead, we have picnics at the park, cookouts on the beach, and we keep looking for new ways to meet people and help them meet others. We would love to meet you!

ARE YOU PART OF A BIGGER GROUP OR A DENOMINATION?

We are proud to be a part of the the Vineyard movement, which is a global family of 2400+ churches in 90+ countries. Committed to worship with passion, serve with devotion, and equip people of every age, ethnicity, language, and background to do the works that Jesus did, the Vineyard is a church planting movement that is growing daily. You can find out more about Vineyard Canada here, and Vineyard USA here. In addition to the Vineyard, we have great relationships with many other churches in the Vancouver area. We love partnering with other churches because we know that we can't do this alone. As we have been blessed by other churches, it is our desire to be a blessing to others.

WHO LEADS LIFE CHURCH?

Life Church is possible because of the incredible team of volunteers who serve Jesus and each other by using their time, energy, and gifts to make church happen. It’s our hope that everyone who calls Life Church home would serve in at least one area of ministry to grow in their relationship with Jesus and connect with other people in our community. On the staff side, Life Church is led by 2 families - the Kims and the Florys. Insoo Kim serves as the Lead Pastor of the church. You can see their bios here.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

Life Church stands firmly in the center of orthodox Christian teaching and practice. We draw from the rich traditions of the Church throughout history and we adhere to its major creeds: the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed.

We are Jesus centered. We believe in the centrality of the gospel, the good news of Jesus—His perfect life, his sacrificial death on the cross for sinners, and his bodily resurrection. We believe it is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone that we are forgiven and saved. We believe in the importance of sharing this good news and calling people to faith in Christ.

We are Scripture based. We believe the Bible is the written Word of God and is therefore the basis for everything we believe and do. We believe in the importance of teaching all of the Bible to our congregation, and that it is through learning and putting the Bible into practice that we mature as followers of Jesus.

We are Spirit empowered. We welcome the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, believing that as followers of Jesus we share in the life of God through the Spirit. We therefore live expectantly, inviting the Spirit’s work through all the gifts the Bible speaks of, including miracles, prophecy, and physical healing.

We are culturally diverse. We believe the church on earth is to be an expression of the Kingdom of God in heaven (Revelation 7:9)—people from every nation, tribe, people, and language reconciled and united in Christ. Our community is therefore deeply committed to racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity.

We are socially engaged. We believe we are called to be engaged in the world around us as “salt and light,” expressing the love of God through good works such as providing for those in need, defending the weak, and working for justice.

CAN I ATTEND EVEN IF I DON’T BELIEVE WHAT YOU GUYS BELIEVE?

Absolutely! Our hope and prayer as a church is to be a safe place where anyone can come and explore the Christian faith without pressure or judgment. Whether you’re a skeptic, agnostic, curious, or a follower of Jesus, we invite you to attend any of our events and gatherings. Come as you are. You’re invited to challenge and be challenged. We don’t expect you to agree. We just ask that you’re open to considering the possibility that there is a God who loves and pursues you.

WHAT IF I HAVE A QUESTION THAT’S NOT ANSWERED HERE?
