Once a month, we take a break from our regular Sunday Life Group gatherings to make space to actually practice what we are learning, like a workshop where we are equipped for Kingdom living in the way of Jesus. Sure, doing a Bible study on praying for the sick or listening to the voice of God is great. But imagine actually practicing this together. This is where real learning and growth happens. This is how a student becomes a practitioner. This is what The Practice is all about.
As we do every Sunday, we begin our time together with a family-style potluck dinner. Sharing a meal together is at the heart of our desire to be a community where everyone is known and loved. Jesus is bringing complete strangers together around this table and making us into a family.
What’s the topic for The Practice this session?
Soul Care & Sabbath
In our relentless pursuit of productivity and success, our lives have become marked by striving, exhaustion, and stress. We have lost the necessary rhythm of life. We long for real rest, a deep rest for our soul. But we don’t know how to find it. The good news is that Jesus shows us the way. This is what Jesus said is Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message).
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.
In this session of The Practice, we will learn how to enter into the unforced rhythms of grace that Jesus offers us through soul care and Sabbath.
